Students who complete the Athletic Program are prepared to take the BOC exam to become a certified AT. Students are also eligible to take the licensing exam administered by the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers. For additional information contact Dr. Matt Kutz at

All-level Teaching Certification
The certification option specifically prepares a person to teach physical education in the public schools of Texas with an additional teaching minor. Students who complete a degree in ESS – All level Teaching are prepared to take the TExES exam given by the Texas Education Agency/State Board for Educator Certification. Majors in Health and Wellness promotion with at least 25 semester hours of health education course work (37 quarter hours) are eligible to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) Exam. This is a national certification administered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC). Most students that take this exam do so the last semester before graduation. Upon graduation, recreation administration students are eligible to take the Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) examination and the therapeutic recreation students are eligible to take the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) examination.
