Thank you for visiting the web page of the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department (HPER) at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Housed in the Jowers Building, which sits at the foot of the TxState campus overlooking the San Marcos River, the HPER Department offers a wide array of graduate, undergraduate and community programs, as well as personal fitness and wellness courses. With more than 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students, HPER is one of the largest departments at TxState. The department is comprised of almost 40 full-time and part-time faculty and instructors, all of whom are dedicated to providing students with challenging coursework and valuable work-related opportunities and experience. Students who choose to major in one of the many programs offered in HPER are exposed to a rigorous and student-centered environment created specifically to equip them with the knowledge and experience necessary to be successful in careers in education, exercise science research, community and school health, adult fitness and wellness, exercise physiology, sports medicine and rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, and recreational administration.
