National Athletic Trainers' Association Mission
The mission of the National Athletic Trainers' Association is to enhance the quality of health care for the physically active and advance the profession of Athletic Training through education and research in the prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries.
Athletic Training Education Program Mission
It is the mission of the Athletic Training Education Program at Texas State University to provide undergraduate Athletic Training students with an in depth academic study of the various domains of prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program will prepare its students to meet the requirements of the NATABOC certification and Texas Licensure examinations as well as their future professional responsibilities. This education program is divided into three components.
· The academic component of the program involves obtaining a cognitive knowledge base concerning the prevention and care of athletic injuries.
· The clinical education component provides the students with opportunities to practice and have ongoing evaluation of psychomotor skills needed in the profession.
· Both of the above components will serve to provide the students with opportunities to practice clinical proficiencies and develop attitudes and values considered essential to Athletic Trainers.
The program is also responsible for providing excellent health care for all student athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletic programs at Texas State University. This care involves providing services such as: prevention, recognition, management, referral, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries to our athletes.
Athletic Training is one of a number of allied health professions that together with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical specialist’s make-up a Sports Medicine team. Texas State University provides valuable experience to students interested in Athletic Training. The experience and exposure that Texas State University provides a solid base for individuals entering any one of the disciplines of Athletic Training. Texas State University provides students with exposures to athletics at a Division 1 intercollegiate level while preparing them for certification by the NATABOC. Texas State University offers a co-educational program that allows all students to obtain hours working with 16 men and women’s sports teams. Athletic training students at Texas State University progress through several levels of competency during their academic and practical experience. Under the direction of NATA certified Athletic Trainers, students will acquire a minimum of 1800 total practicum hours.
