My primary research interest focuses on identifying underlying mechanisms (e.g., correlates, mediators) affecting physical activity behavior among individuals with disabilities, more specifically on youth with visual impairments. This line of research attempts to expand the body of knowledge regarding physical activity behavior among children and adolescents with visual impairments. In addition, it may help inform future (specially designed) interventions aimed at increasing physical activity in youth with visual impairments by identifying factors that may influence changes in physical activity behavior; thereby helping to reduce obesity and improve overall quality of life among this underserved population. Secondary research interests include: (a) issues on measurement of physical activity through both subjective and objective measures among understudied populations (e.g., people with disabilities, ethnic minorities) and (b) professional preparation of pre-service teachers regarding teaching and including children with disabilities in physical education, sport, or recreational settings. | |
