My overall research area of interest is in improving athletic performance for persons with disabilities. Recently my research efforts have focused on utilizing respiratory resistance training to enhance athletic performance, quality of life, and self-efficacy for wheelchair athletes. I am currently seeking an adaptive yoga certification to incorporate into my research and teaching. I currently teach five undergraduate and graduate Therapeutic Recreation courses. All of my courses include hands-on community and clinical lab opportunities working with persons of all ages and ability levels. These include programs such as adaptive aquatics, fishing, horticulture, and multi-sensory events with the San Marcos and Austin Special Education programs. In addition, we work in Assistive Living Group Homes with persons who have Alzheimer’s disease in San Marcos and New Braunfels. We also work with the Wounded Warriors Program, the Veterans Administration, San Antonio Parks and Recreation, and wheelchair athletes in Austin doing many adaptive sport programs including wheelchair rugby, wheelchair basketball, sit volleyball, wheelchair softball, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair football, adaptive water skiing, and a strong man competition. | |
