Total Wellness: Adult Group Fitness Classes

Make your fitness goals a reality this semester with exercise classes designed to match the schedules and interests of Texas State staff and faculty. Walk on over to Jowers after work or during your lunch break to take part in the following classes:

 

Class Offerings

  • Zumba Foundations and Express— Zumba® fuses hypnotic latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. Zumba will be blended into our Foundations and Express class formats as the cardio portion. You will also enjoy resistance training, core work and stretching as part of this class. 
  • Noon and Evening Express — fun, time-efficient and fitness-packed workouts offering cardio and resistance training
  • Total Body Sculpting — a full-body workout that shapes and tones all the major muscle groups through an aerobic warm-up, resistance training, core work and stretching
  • Rock Hard Core — an intense 10-minute workout that uses innovative and functional training to create a strong mid-section
  • Foundations — the perfect workout for beginners; includes low-impact, easy-to-follow cardiovascular training, functional fitness resistance training targeting all major muscle groups, and stretching to increase flexibility   
  • Hatha Yoga — gentle yoga stretches to increase muscle tone and flexibility while reducing daily stress
  • Fusion — a perfect blend of Hatha Yoga and Pilates to soothe your soul while creating a strong, flexible and relaxed body

 

Dates, Times and Location

The Total Wellness fall session runs from Monday, August 31, 2009, through Thursday, December 17, 2009.
Classes are offered during the lunch hour Monday through Friday and after the workday Monday through Thursday. Click here for a full schedule. Additional sessions may be added as the semester continues.

All classes take place in the Jowers complex, located next to Strahan Coliseum and Sewell Park.
From campus:

  • take Aquarena Drive toward IH-35
  • turn right onto Charles Austin Drive
  • take first right onto Jowers Access Road (immediately before the railroad tracks)

 

Cost

Cost for an entire semester of classes is only $75! Cost includes the following:

  • unlimited attendance to any of the weekly classes
  • individual health consultation
  • weekly motivational e-mails with fit tips and recipes
  • use of showers and lockerooms
  • use of heart rate monitors during class

Lockers and laundry service available for an additional $20.00 per semester fee.

  • Individuals will receive a full-size locker, a lock, a box locker for uniform and towel exchange, a uniform (e.g., t-shirts, shorts, socks, and towels), fresh towels as needed, and laundry services.
 

Health Consultation

Members are offered one-on-one consultation with a Total Wellness staff member, who will discuss how to best reach your personal wellness goals and evaluate your current health status through body size and composition assessments. The service is offered at the start of each semester so members can track changes in their health and fitness.

 

Wellness Time

Texas State employees: You are eligible to receive 30 minutes per day release time to participate in wellness programs on campus. See Texas State Wellness Program UPPS No. 04.04.32.

Payment is available by cash, check or credit card. Please register online regardless of your payment method.
