Teen Strength, Conditioning and Wellness Summer Training Program


Texas State University-San Marcos all teens to train at Texas State in our multi-week Strength, Conditiioning and Wellness Summer Training Program, for ages 12-18.

Are health and beauty articles making your teen even more confused about how to stay fit? Does your child want to make the team next fall or stay in shape during the off-season? Whether your teen is an accomplished athlete or simply wants to start living a healthier, active lifestyle, the Teen Strength and Wellness Summer Training Program can help them achieve their goals.

Using the latest technology and esteem-building methods, a team of fitness and nutrition professionals will help teens:
•    undergo health and fitness testing as well as body size and composition assessment
•    understand sports nutrition through lessons and post-workout snacks ideas
•    optimize their athletic potential through diet and exercise
•    use up-to-date, scientific-based training techniques
•    begin the next school year with a competitive edge
 

How participants benefit
The Teen Strength, Conditioning and Wellness Training Program will help teens improve:
•    agility
•    balance
•    body size and composition
•    cardiovascular endurance
•    coordination
•    flexibility
•    muscular endurance
•    muscular strength
•    nutritional knowledge
•    power
•    speed
 
Dates and times
This summer families can still work in their vacations as well as other camps with our convenient scheduling option.
Training sessions run from June 8 - Aug. 13, 2009 and meet from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon, Monday through Thursday, at Jowers Center in San Marcos.
Participants choose to attend the full ten weeks or choose any number of the most convenient 
weeks to train this summer.
Summer training runs from June 8 – Aug. 13, 2009; participants can select to train any or all of the following weeks:
  • June 8th-11th
  • June 15th - 18th
  • June 22nd - 25th
  • June 29th - July 2nd
  • July 6th - 9th
  • July 13th - 16th
  • July 20th - 23rd
  • July 27th - 30th
  • August 3rd - 6th
  • August 10th - 13th

 

What to wear and bring
Participants should come dressed in workout shorts, T-shirts and tennis shoes.
Activities will take place indoors and out. Sunscreen, a water bottle and a hand towel are recommended. Water fountains are available for refills.
 
Location and drop-off
Jowers Center is located on the Texas State University-San Marcos campus.
Driving directions:
  • exit 206, Aquarena Drive from IH-35
  • turn left on Charles Austin Drive
  • take a right onto Jowers Access Road (immediately before the railroad tracks)
  • continue down access road, where HPER staff will be waiting on the right to meet your children
Cost
Register by May 18, 2009, to lock in the early bird rate of $25 per week for the first 2 weeks you sign up. When you register for more than 2 weeks, pay only $22.50 for each additional week.
  
After May 18, 2009, the regular rate of $35 per week will apply for the first 2 weeks. When you register for more than 2 weeks, pay only $32.50 for each additional week.
