Biomechanics and Kinesiology Study Guide
- 1. Know what Kinesiology and Biomechanics are from a definitional
standpoint.
2. Be able to describe Newton's laws on motion.
3. Give examples of how Newton's laws of motion are utilized
in physical education and sport related activities.
4. Why is it necessary for physical educators to understand the
science of Kinesiology and Biomechanics.
5. Name and describe the movements of the human body.
6. Describe AP position.
7. What are the 3 cardinal planes of motion and their respective
axis.
8. Define directional terms. e.g.: superior, inferior, anterior,
posterior, medial, lateral, proximal, distal, caudal, cranial,
ventral, dorsal
9. Name and describe the movements of the human body.
10. Using the Pathagrium Theorum, how could one determine the
stability of an individual in a four point starting stance?
11. How does one increase their stability in accordance to sound
mechanical principles?
12. What is the difference between rotary motion, circular motion,
angular motion and linear motion?
13. Be able to determine horizontal and vertical measures when
given the angles, speed or distance that a person or thing is
moving at.e.g. If a quarterback threw a pass at 30 degrees and
the velocity of the pass at the moment of release was 60 mph,
what is the horizontal velocity of the pass?
- 14. Be able to determine measures from a right triangle using
the Pythagorean theorem.
- 15. Be able to determine force of an object if the mass and
acceleration factors are known.
16. What is the difference between quantitative and qualitative
methods of evaluating movement?
- 17. Know the bones and joints of the human anatomy.
Note: Although the above questions and concepts have been
indicated as a guideline for study, further information discussed
in lecture may be used for evaluation purposes on Exam I.
